About two years ago, my wife and I moved to a house out in the country up Bull Creek valley on a street called Happy Crow Lane. The house was a beautiful home looking out at a mountain with a small creek flowing through the valley, one of the many natural paradises of the Asheville area. About 7 months into living there, we learned that we would be taking in a 10 year old boy. I started working on this song and began seeing our time in this house as an in between phase of our lives. I saw it as a short period of our lives for just the two of us to connect way out in the country before everything changed. I had also recently decided to give up my dream of being a touring musician and begin laying down roots with my wife, a very hard decision. So, this song is about coming home and reflecting on the past while looking forward. Its about investing yourself into your future while savoring the gaps of calm with a loved one. We've since moved back into the city and began the journey of raising a ten year old boy.
lyrics
Home
I'm coming home
to maple trees
you
and for me.
Bull Creek will always flow
storms will pass
through the valley.
The future
is what we set in motion,
our love the constant.
I know its hard
to give all you have
and never feel return
but we're in the in between
a carioca dream
on Happy Crow
on Happy Crow
before he comes.
Don't doubt yourself
you'll shine for many people
you'll change many lives
but now is the time of Stella
a time for you and me
on Happy Crow
on Happy Crow
on Happy Crow
