For me, a warm Tennessee Sunset is a gateway to memory time travel. The distinct humid heat, the loud chorus of bugs, the fire red and yellow tint to the sky are the binding factor to memories all throughout my life. In this sensory combination, I am able to transport in my mind to different parts of my life. I can go back to one of my earliest memories of playing in my yard with my brother and parents. I can tap into the freedom and adventure of a Friday evening as a teenager. As the final and title track of the album, this song sums up the underlying theme of the album: the melancholy wonder of nostalgia.
lyrics
Its mid august
in a southern town
at dusk.
A humid wind blows.
Fire red and yellow
fill the sky
nostalgia over takes me.
Me and my brother
as kids
playing in our yard at sunset.
The freedom in our innocence
is what I crave
on this summer day.
When moments of joy
fall through my fingers.
You know it hurts me to my core.
But I have everything I need
in you
to feel whole.
Time travel
through Tennessee sunsets.
